The Vetiver plant is native to India and revered since ancient times for its deep, strong, earthy scent, and also used as a valuable fixative in perfumery. A large, bunchgrass perennial, Vetiver grows to a height of about two meters with roots growing downward to three meters. Its roots were considered a symbol of vitality and woven into mats and screens once dried. The oil is also extracted from the roots of Vetiver by steam distillation and contains powerful therapeutic properties, healing to the mind and body.

Wheat is one of the world’s most important cereal grains which has developed from a hybrid wild wheat growing originally in the Mediterranean and the Middle East and now cultivated for more than 10,000 years. Milling wheat for flour only became common in the 12th century but by the 19th century wheat became the most significant crop worldwide. The rich golden oil is cold-pressed from the germ of the wheat kernel and contains an exceptionally high content of Vitamin E and fatty acids, particularly linoleic acid (Omega 6). The anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties due to linoleic acid and antioxidant effect, from Vitamin E, are beneficial for protecting the skin and promoting skin barrier repair.

Yarrow is a perenial herb with clusters of cute, little white flowers, It is native to Asia, Europe and North America and can now be found growing in most temperate regions go the world. Yarrow has traditionally been used as medicine for a variety of conditions, most notably for its ability to stop bleeding and heal wounds and open sores. The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation of the flowering tops and lace-like leaves and has a fresh, herbaceous slightly sweet and spicy aroma. The high Chamazulene content (also found in German chamomile) is seen in its rich, deep blue colour. It is renowned for its powerful anti-inflammatory properties, useful for soothing inflamed and irritated skin such as eczema, rashes and insect bites. A tall tropical tree, native to the Philippines, Ylang Ylang translates in Tagalog as, ‘Flower of flowers” for it is covered year-round with clusters of richly scented green to yellow flowers, drooping from long slender branches. Ylang Ylang reaches a height of around 20 mt. and is found growing in many parts of tropical Asia. It is valued for its incredible use in perfumery applications and for its various therapeutic properties. The oil is extracted from the flowers by fractional steam distillation, producing four grades of varying qualities. In skincare, it is renowned as a natural regulator of sebum, being of benefit on both dry and oily skin due to its balancing effect.
