Palmarosa essential oil

CYMBOPOGON MARTINII / FAMILY: POACEAE

Palmarosa is a scented grass native to India, from the same family as Lemongrass (also known as ‘Indian Geranium’), valuable for its ability to nourish the skin and to calm, uplift and balance the emotions. It is a very powerful bactericide and has a long history of use against fevers and infectious diseases. Its antiseptic, calming and regenerative properties make it particularly valuable in skincare for mature skin and assisting with acne, scars, sores, and problem skin. The slender stems and flowers of the plant are used for the oil extraction, obtained by steam distillation, which along with its active properties, carries an aroma that is sweet, floral with a hint of rose.

Patchouli essential oil

Patchouli is a bushy perennial herb, native to Malaysia, which grows up to one meter in height. It is now cultivated in a number of S.E. Asian countries where the large, soft furry leaves are dried before the oil is extracted through steam distillation. Patchouli oil has a long history of medicinal use as an antidote for snake-bites and stings of venomous insects. The deep pungent aroma of Patchouli oil has long been used as a base note fixative in perfumery, and used to relieve feelings of stress. Patchouli oil offers valuable uses in skincare due to its cell regenerative, antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties.

A perennial hybrid which grows up to one meter high, peppermint is the most common of mints, valued as a culinary herb for flavouring and for its therapeutic properties. The oil extracted through stream distillation is renowned for its refreshing, strong and minty aroma which stimulates the senses and uplifts the spirits. It has a long history of use as a stomach soother and beneficial in helping with colds and flu, headaches, nausea, muscle spasms and relieving muscle and joint pain.

We have chosen a gentle, broad-spectrum preservative which is naturally derived from mixed vegetable oils, popular in certified organic skincare formulations.

Polyglyceryl-5 Oleate

A natural solubiliser (emulsifier) made from sunflower seed oil and vegetable glycerin. It is an ester of oleic acid and a glycerin polymer, often used in organic skincare to bring oil and water into a stable emulsion. We use it in our room mists to allow the essential oils to mix with the floral waters. Without solubilisers the essential oils would float on the surface.

Pomegranate Seed Oil

A native to Iran, the Pomegranate is a small deciduous tree which grows to a height of five - nine meters and now growing in many other parts of the world, including Australia, America, the Mediterranean and southeast Asia. Traditionally revered as being a symbol of wealth and fertility, the pomegranate bears delicious fruit with seeds that have the appearance of dazzling red jewels. The oil extracted from the seeds is unique as it contains a rare source of Punicic Acid (75-80%), a very rare Omega-5 fatty acid, which is one of the most powerful plant-based antioxidants known. Prickly Pear (Indian Fig) oil

OPUNTIA FICUS-INDICA / FAMILY: CACTACEAE

A magnificent cactus native to Mexico, Prickly pear grows to a height of five to seven meters and bears a dramatic display of large, brightly coloured flowers and red fruit growing up to 7 cm long. The fruit is a berry containing numerous seeds which are cold pressed to extract the nutrient rich virgin oil. Prickly Pear oil is exceptionally rich in Vitamin E, Vitamin K, phytosterols, and carotenoids and provides an excellent source of fatty acids (Omega 3, 6, 9), particularly linoleic acid (omega-6). The anti-inflammatory, emollient and regenerative properties help restore an impaired function of the lipid barrier and particularly beneficial in the care of dry, inflamed, sensitive and mature skin.
